Agriculture in Perumpillichira

Most of the villagers are involved in agriculture. Rubberwww.rubberboard.org.in is the main source of income for the residents of Perumpillichira. Rubber is cultivated extensively in all parts of the village. Rice, coconut, cocoa, ginger, and turmeric are also cultivated in Perumpillichira. Nutmeg, Aricnut, pepper and coffee are also cultivated.

Vegetables such as long beans, bittergurd, lady's finger, brinjal, and spinach are cultivated in winter as well as in summer. Farmers of Perumpillichira are emotionally attached to paddy cultivation. Even though not viable economically, most of the paddy fields are cultivated. Laterite soil is the soil type present in this region. MVIP canal going through this village is the main irrigation source in summer when most of the wells get dry. This canal provides water as well as an opportunity for children to swim during summer.

Villagers raise cattle, goats, chickens and ducks as well. Cows are raised in farms and milk is sent to other parts of Kerala. You can see the grass being cultivated on both sides of the canal while you drive through the canal road.
