Education in Perumpillichira

Primary schools in Perumpillichira are Karuka LPS, St.Joseph's UP school and Kumaramangalam MKNMHSS as well as Al-Azhar Public School.

Karuka LPS is the Panchayath sponsored school. Most of the residents must have some portion of their primary education done in this school. Upto 4th standard students study here.It is one of the first schools started in Perumpillichira. Karuka LPS is famous for its quality of education as well as extra curricular activities. This school has improved a lot from a four pillar roof structure to a good infrastructure. Republic day celebrations of this school are famous as most of the people residing near by will attend the function. 

St. Joseph's UP school is another famous school catering to the educational needs of Perumpillichira. Admissions are done from 5th standard to 7th standard. This school started in 1979 belongs to St Joseph church Perumpillichira. Teachers and management of this school are keen on keeping the academic standards higher along with good infrastructure. Garden in this school is very famous. You can see various flowers as well as rare vegetables cultivated in the surrounding of this school. Geography and Climate of Perumpillichira

Geographically Perumpillichira is part of Midland or Idanad region of Kerala. The vegetation is mainly tropical evergreen and moist deciduous type. Most of the areas are hilly and consist of slopes. Cheenikathand is the famous hill in this village. Land is separated according to height in a step rise pattern. One bed of land in same height separated from other using stone ridges. Main roads and canal passes through the low lying areas.

The climate in this village is moderate and pleasant. Its's proximity to the equator results in little seasonal temperature variation as well as  moderate to high levels of humidity. However Summer in the months of March and April will be too hot. You will sweat a lot, sometimes at night when clouds cover the sky in summer. 

Annual temperatures vary between 20 to 35 °C. From June through September, the south-west monsoon brings in heavy rains. From October to December, Perumpillichira receives light rain from the northwest monsoon. The average annual rainfall is 3,200 mm.

Perumpillichira in a short

Perumpillichira is a small village in the Idukki district of Kerala state. It is located close to Thodupuzha the famous town in the district (3 KM from Thodupuzha). Perumpillichira is blessed with its natural beauty and lavish greenery. The name ‘Perumpillichira’ comes from the name of a large water reservoir adjacent to a Hindu temple at the heart of the village.

A major portion of the population is involved in agriculture. Rubber is the main source of income for the residents of Perumpillichira. Rubber is cultivated extensively in all parts of the village. Bananas and tapioca are the other important cultivation in Perumpillichira.

Al-Azhar College of Engineering & Technology is a higher education institution in Perumpillichira. St Joseph's Upper Primary School, Karuka LPS, Sandeepani Lower Primary School, Co-Operative Public School and Al-Azhar Public School are the primary schools in this area.

St Joseph's Church, Muhiyudeen Juma Masjid and Perumpillichira Hindu Temple are the places of worship.

Agriculture in Perumpillichira

Most of the villagers are involved in agriculture. Rubberwww.rubberboard.org.in is the main source of income for the residents of Perumpillichira. Rubber is cultivated extensively in all parts of the village. Rice, coconut, cocoa, ginger, and turmeric are also cultivated in Perumpillichira. Nutmeg, Aricnut, pepper and coffee are also cultivated.

Vegetables such as long beans, bittergurd, lady's finger, brinjal, and spinach are cultivated in winter as well as in summer. Farmers of Perumpillichira are emotionally attached to paddy cultivation. Even though not viable economically, most of the paddy fields are cultivated. Laterite soil is the soil type present in this region. MVIP canal going through this village is the main irrigation source in summer when most of the wells get dry. This canal provides water as well as an opportunity for children to swim during summer.


Villagers raise cattle, goats, chickens and ducks as well. Cows are raised in farms and milk is sent to other parts of Kerala. You can see the grass being cultivated on both sides of the canal while you drive through the canal road.
